Philodendron ‘White Wave’ (Birkin)

Low-maintenance | Beginner-friendly | Improves air quality

Light

Prefers bright, indirect light. Adequate brightness is essential to maintain the plant’s striking white variegation. Avoid harsh direct sunlight, which can scorch the leaves.

Watering

With clay balls: Keep the water level around the bottom third of the granules. This ensures the roots stay hydrated while preventing rot.

With water only: Top up whenever the level drops below the roots, always keeping the stems above the waterline. Allow a short dry interval before refilling to avoid waterlogging.

Temperature

This plant prefers warm conditions between 18–24 °C. It can tolerate up to around 28 °C but growth slows below 15 °C. Protect from drafts and avoid letting temperatures fall below 10–13 °C.

Humidity

Adapts to normal household conditions but thrives with higher humidity. Occasional misting or placement near a humidifier helps keep leaves lush, especially in drier environments.

Feeding

Add hydroculture-specific liquid feed every 2 to 3 waterings during the growing season, March–September. Use a diluted solution to avoid overfertilising, as variegated plants are more sensitive.

Height & Growth

Philodendron ‘White Wave’ is a self-supporting, upright grower with glossy green leaves streaked in white. Unlike trailing philodendrons, it keeps a compact, architectural form, making it a striking focal point indoors.

  • Mini → 10–15 cm: Perfect as a tabletop accent or small decorative feature.

  • Classic → 15–20 cm+: Grows into a statement piece for desks, shelves, or as a floor plant in larger spaces.

Origin

A cultivated hybrid variety from the Philodendron family, with ancestry in Central and South American tropical rainforests. Beloved for its bold variegation, the White Wave adds a modern, stylish touch to indoor plant collections.

Note: Images show the plant at different stages of growth. Your Philodendron ‘White Wave’ may vary slightly in size and variegation pattern.
